Jerry L. Miller

March 13, 1941 ~ March 26, 2017 (age 76) 76 Years Old


Jerry L. Miller 76, of Bedford, died Sunday, March 26, 2017 at Windber Hospice after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease.  He was born on March 13, 1941 in Wolfsburg, a son of the late A. Carl and A. Alice (Zimmers) Miller.  On July 25, 1960, in Bedford, he married Barbara A. (Wilson) Miller and his death ended a marriage of over 56 years.  He is also survived by three sons: Ricky L. Miller, of Bedford, Tim A. Miller and wife Rose, of Summerfield, NC, Rodney E. Miller and wife Erin, of Catlettsburg, KY; five grandchildren: Brandon, Jerrod, Sara, Mary, and Teaghan; three sisters: Virginia L. Carlson, of Bedford, Alice “Sis” Burtnett, of Everett, and Patricia A. Diehl, of Manns Choice, four brothers: Richard C. Miller, of Everett, D. Bert Miller, of Springhope, Joseph “Doc” Miller, of Mechanicsburg, and Thomas H. Miller, of New Buena Vista; and many nieces and nephews;  He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert C. Miller, and an infant sister, Sandra.

Jerry was a graduate of the Bedford High School class of 1959.  He worked for Straub Bros. of Bedford before starting his career as a lineman with AT&T traveling to many states. He then moved back home to Bedford and took a job with United Telephone System, which subsequently merged with Sprint, and then CenturyLink before retiring after 35 years of faithful service.  He was also an Asst. Scout Master for Troop 82 at the Bedford Grange Hall for many years and a member of the Bedford Kiwanis Club.  He enjoyed golfing and used to be a pin setter at Chalybeate Lanes.  He also served on the Church Consistory at St. Paul’s Reformed Church of Cessna.  He enjoyed working outdoors and volunteering his time.  He also enjoyed being a Mr. Fix It, building things for his children and grandchildren, to also include doing projects for family and friends.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, co-worker, and  best friend.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford with Pastor Robert E. Hershberger, Jr. and Pastor Richard Lang officiating. Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park. Friends will be received on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home and 1 hour prior to the service on Thursday.   Those wishing can make memorial contributions in Jerry’s name to Windber Hospice, 600 Somerset Ave., Windber, PA 15963.  Our online guest book at www.berekbilefuneralhome.com.
