Ethel S. Johnson, 81, of Bedford, died Friday, June 3, 2016 at UPMC Altoona Hospital. She was born on November 3, 1934, in Bedford, a daughter of the late Chalmer and Evelene (Hixon) Calhoun. She is survived by three sons: Richard L. Henderson, and wife Debra of Bedford, Danny L. Henderson, and significant other Sara of Everett,  David A. Henderson, and wife Deborah of Osterburg; one daughter, Dr. Bobbi Ann Cecil and husband Morris of Louisville, KY; eight grandchildren:  Beau Henderson, and wife Melissa, Lacey Stiffler, and husband Shawn, Danny Henderson II, and wife Janell, Jarrid Henderson, and significant other Allison, Derek Henderson, Mattison, Milli, and Maci Cecil; 12 great-grandchildren:  Riley, Ellee, Kaitlyn, Race, Trey, Daelyn, Vann, Daemia, Draven, Emma, Ethan, and Zaraya; three sisters: Dorothy Merritts of NC, Mabel Ritchey, and husband John of Bedford, Treva May, and husband Woody of Bedford; and one brother, Skyles Calhoun, and  significant other Jeannie of Bedford, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, James Calhoun, widow Patty who survives of Schellsburg.

Ethel graduated from Bedford High School.  She worked as a waitress for the Family House in Breezewood and then Ed’s Steak House in Bedford.  After raising her kids Ethel made the decision to get her GED, and in 1986 she went to college at ACC and then UPJ graduating with high honors and a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology.  She worked for the Chambersburg MHMR and then as a caseworker for Bedford MHMR until her retirement. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., at the Real Life Church, in Bedford, with Pastor Brian M. Swain and Pastor Beau Henderson officiating.
