William M. Ford, 94, of Bedford, died on Tuesday, October 20, 2020, at Homewood at Martinsburg. He was born on October 31, 1925, in Luztzville, a son of the late Ira Blair and Lillie Rachel (Whitfield) Ford. He was preceded in death by his first wife Jeanette (Smith) Ford on February 4, 2000. He is survived by his 2nd wife Sara Grubb Ford and the following family: two sons, John K. Ford and wife Dixie of Bedford, William D. Ford and wife Janice of Bedford; two step-sons, Curtis Grubb and wife Jane of Bedford, Cary Grubb and wife Molly of Schellsburg; three step-daughters, Joyce Mock and husband Thomas of Bedford, Janis “Fran" Hillegass and husband Michael of Schellsburg, Charlene Fisher and husband Chuck of Bedford; seven grandchildren: Julie Lee Dowd, William Dean Ford Jr., Amy Lynn Ford, Stacy Ann Ford, Daniel Allen Ford, Boden Beau Ford and Kyler Donald Ford; five step-grandchildren: Chad Hillegass, Mandy Shroyer, Troy Grubb, Corey Wertz, and Jay Charles Grubb; nine great-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald E. Ford widow Cyndee surviving of Bedford; eight brothers James, Thomas, Walter, Frank, Nelson, John, Donald and Edward Ford; four sisters: Marjorie Ford, Lillian Smith, Eleanor Wolfhope, and Betty Ritchey.
William was a WWII Army Veteran that served in the European Theater. After the war he worked as a butcher for various meat markets. He then went to work for New Enterprise Stone and Lime as a heavy equipment operator and retired in 1989. William was honored last year at the Bedford American Legion as being one of the oldest members of the 1946 Fort Bedford Honor Guard. He was a member of the Bald Hill Lutheran Church, Bedford Lions Club, Bedford VFW #7527 and Bedford Grange #619, and was a life member of the Bedford American Legion Post #118. William enjoyed hunting and being outdoors. He was also known to be a Mr. Fix it to all.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel, at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford, with Pastor Deken George officiating. Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park, with full military rites conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard. Friends will be received on Friday from 2 -4 and 6 - 9 p.m. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
