Willard L. Bergey

Willard L. Bergey, 91, of Manns Choice, went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 29, 2024. He was born on July 15, 1932 in Elroy, a son of the late Howard F. and Edith (Landis) Bergey. On September 27, 1952 in Elroy, he married Thelma (Godshall) Bergey who survives along with the following family, seven sons:  David Bergey and wife Rachel of Ephrata; Timothy Bergey and wife Ruth Hope of Fayette, NY;  James Bergey and wife Lois of Barnett, MO; Steven Bergey of Bethel; John Bergey and wife Charlotte of Stevens;  Joseph Bergey and wife Caroline of Manns Choice; Robert Bergey and wife Erica of Sagle, ID; five daughters: Joy Stoltzfus and husband Daniel of Morris;  Lois Martin and husband Willis Jr. of Wellsboro; Mary Landis and husband Joel of Richfield; Regina Burkholder and husband Wilbur of Bethel, Rose Weaver and husband Daryl of Manns Choice; 60 grandchildren; 108 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by a son, Philip Bergey; two grandsons, one was an infant and Joshua Bergey; one granddaughter Connie Stoltzfus; one great-grandson Jordan; two brothers Lester and Henry Bergey; and one sister Evelyn Detweiler.

Willard was a member of the Christian Light Church in Cessna.  He worked as a farmer most of his life and in his 60’s and 70’s he continued his business of buying and selling hay and through his work, his passion was telling people about his Lord and Savior. His life of thankfulness was expressed often in his later days when he needed care.  He thanked God for his health often, and thanked his caretakers many times for their kindness to him.  His last words were Thank You.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 5, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at the Christian Light Church in Cessna, with Pastor James Peight officiating.  Burial at Christian Light Church Cemetery.  Friends will be received on Sunday from 2 - 6 p.m. at the Christian Light Church in Cessna, and on Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.
