Velma L. Dawson, 90, of Schellsburg, died on Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at UPMC Western Maryland. She was born on September 27, 1929, in Somerset, a daughter of the late William and Viola (Hook) Emerick. In 1952 in Bedford, she married Earl James Dawson who preceded her in death on August 5, 2008. She is survived by the following family: two daughters, Mary Ann Lilly widow of George of Ellerslie, MD, Carol Dietz and husband Barry of Keyser, WV; two sons: James "Moe" Dawson of Everett; and Gerald Dawson and wife Bonnie of Schellsburg; 11 grandchildren: Lisa Weist, Patty Dietz, Rebecca Dietz, Jessica Hartman, Angie Dawson, Debbie Dietz, Theresa Dietz, Keri Walters, Michael Shoemaker, James Dawson, and Toby Dawson; 16 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; three sisters: Effie Sturtz of Wellersburg; Dorothy Emerick of Meyersdale; and Geraldine Zembower of Centerville. She was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Emerick, and a sister Marie Murry.
Velma attended the Christian Holiness Church in Hyndman. She enjoyed sewing, washing dishes, picnics and shopping. The family wanted to acknowledge Ashley Logsdon for all her help through the years.
