Thelma Hoagland Obituary

Thelma D. Hoagland 96, of Bedford, died on Thursday, November 26, 2020 at Bedford Colonial Courtyard. She was born on March 30, 1924, in Bedford, a daughter of the late Charles W. and Edna Sue (Kauffman) Mowery. On December 31, 1966 in Maywood, NJ at the Zion Lutheran Church, she married Samuel Ray Hoagland and he preceded her in death on August 16, 2010. She is survived by a sister Marvelene Kooistra of FL; and some nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers Sherman, Eugene, and Elden Mowery.

Thelma was a member of the Bedford American Legion Auxiliary, secretary of the Bedford Elks Ladies Auxiliary; she was the minority inspector of Election for many years for Bedford County Board of Elections. A member for the International Toastmistress and was toastmistress of the year in 1982. She was one of the original drum majorettes of the Bedford High School Band and drum major of the Bedford Legion Band.  She clogged with a dancing group in Avon Park, FL for 9 years.  She graduated Bedford High School Class of 1943 and then attended the Institute of Banking in New Jersey.  Some of her hobbies were dancing, swimming, bicycling, and playing golf.

Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements by the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford.   Our online guest book is available at www.berkebilefuneralhome.com.
