Thelma L. (Beard) Fletcher

Thelma L. Fletcher 86, of Bedford, died Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at UPMC Mercy Hospital.  She was born on November 13, 1932 in Windber, a daughter of the late Alphus and Catherine (Snyder) Beard.  She is survived by the following family: a son Daniel Fletcher and wife Linda, of Bedford, a daughter Catherine Opaska and husband Daniel of Carnegie, and a son Brian Fletcher and fiancée Sandra Christopher of Bedford; eight grandchildren: Mark and Ashley Fletcher, Christopher, Autumn, and Sarah Opaska, and Melissa McQuillan, Stephanie and Timothy Christopher, and Andrew Fletcher; six great-grandchildren: Savannah, Cian, Ayden, Alexis, Harleigh, and Nicolas; a sister Irene Horner widow of Donald, of Osterburg, and a brother Dale Beard and wife Mary, of South Carolina.  She was preceded in death by her former husband Kenneth Fletcher.

Thelma graduated from Bedford High School in 1951. She worked as a dispatcher for the former Bedford Taxi Company, and then retired from Donahoe Manor Nursing Home after 30 years.  Thelma was a true Patriot, growing up during WWII, having the utmost respect for the military.  She enjoyed collecting coins and stamps, crosswords, puzzles, and the Pittsburgh Steelers.  Thelma always attended every sporting event for her children and grandchildren, her family being her greatest joy, especially Andrew who could cheer her up on her sickest days.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 7, 2019 at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Pastor Adam Kravets officiating.  Burial at Fishertown Cemetery.  Friends will be received on Friday, from 10:00 a.m., until the hour of the service at the funeral home.  Our online guestbook is available at www.berkebilefuneralhome.com
