Ruth K. Diehl 91 of Bedford, died Sunday, February 16, 2020 at Pennknoll Village Nursing Home. She was born on May 3, 1928 in Bedford a daughter of the late Stanley and Lena (Shaffer) Koontz. On October 6, 1950 in Bedford, she married Merle E. Diehl who survives along with the following family: a daughter, Donna K. Roberts and husband Sam, of Bedford, a daughter, Doris M. Evans and husband Dean, of Red Lion, and a son Jerry L. Diehl, of Bedford; five grandchildren: JoEllen Weaverling and husband Mike, Justin Roberts and wife Kate, Jeff Evans and wife Julie, Jason Evans and wife Katie, and Colt Diehl; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson: Bryan L. Evans; three brothers: Charles, Ray, and Stanley Koontz; four sisters: Margaret Beegle, Mary Moose, Sara Pittman, and Eleanor Baker.
Ruth was a member of the St. John’s UCC Church in Bedford, where she actively volunteered and was a Sunday School Teacher. She was a lifelong caregiver for many, and volunteered countless hours in the community with several organizations, as well as Bedford Hospital and Pennknoll Village. She enjoyed her flowers and especially roses.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 21, 2020 at 10:00 a.m., at the St. John’s United Church of Christ, 144 W. John St., with Pastor Brady Plummer officiating. Burial at Friends Cove UCC Cemetery. Friends will be received on Thursday, from 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
