Rodney Beegle Obituary

Rodney W. Beegle ,86 of Bedford, died Monday, March 23, 2020.  He was born on June 2, 1933 in Bedford, a son of the late Russell and LaVerne (Wonders) Beegle.  On January 13, 1959, in Winchester, VA, he married Donna (Simons) Beegle, who survives along with two children: Mike Beegle, of Bedford, and Michelle Fitzkee and husband Scott of Forest Hill, MD; two grandchildren: Bryn and Brody Fitzkee.

Rodney was a 1951 graduate of Bedford High School, and a 1952 graduate of Penn State University.  He then enlisted in the US Navy and was a jazz and big band trumpeter in the Navy Bands.  He traveled to Europe on the USS New Jersey BB-62.  Rodney was very active in local and area club scene bands, playing over 500 events in over thirty years.  Notably he was in the house band at the time of the Bedford Springs Hotel devastating flood of 1988.  Rodney was an original employee of the Standard Register Plant in 1962, serving in progressive promotions in management, technical, engineering and customer service positions.  He retired from there in 1993.  A fitness junkie and an avid cyclist, he could be observed far out on rural roads of Bedford County on daily rides on his beloved Cannondale bikes.  He completed in cross-state rides with the Cycle America Group doing his last 500 mile ride at age 69 at the western Grand Canyon areas.  His personal lifelong interests were wide and varied; music, cycling, bodybuilding, living a fitness lifestyle, and in particular anything science and culture related.  The arrival of his grandchildren changed the course of his life.  He aspired to be a Superman grandfather, and was present for every momentous day, never missing a thing.
