Reta Barefoot Obituary

Reta J. Barefoot, 93 of Indiana formerly of Bedford, died on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at Beacon Ridge Nursing Home in Indiana. She was born on August 2, 1928 in Bedford a daughter of the late Russell James and Marion (Crissman) Smith. In April of 1947 in Winchester, VA, she married Clair Roy Barefoot who preceded her in death on May 22, 1978. She is survived by two sons: Kerry J. Barefoot and wife Rose of Bedford; Charles R. Barefoot and wife Jane of South Carolina; a daughter Sheryl L. Barefoot of Indiana; six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister Marilyn Imgrund.

Reta was a 1946 graduate of Bedford High School and a member of the Pleasant Hill Bible Church. She worked for various places during her life that included the Bedford Springs Hotel, Ed’s Steak House, manager at the Schellsburg Shoe Factory, and then owned the general store in Imlertown until the late 1970’s. She enjoyed owning the store and talking to the people that would come in. Some of her hobbies were reading books, doing arts and crafts, and maintaining her flowers.
