Paula S. “Zoots” “Sotch” Hillegass 67, of Pennknoll Village passed on to her final resting place on Tuesday, May 25, 2021. She was born on September 11, 1953 in Bedford a daughter of Evan R. and the late Helen M. (Kerr) Hillegass; and step-mother the late Mae L. (Burkett) Hillegass. She is survived by a daughter Tammy M. (Hillegass) Dorr and fiancé Aric L. Weicht; a grand-daughter who was her entire world Micah E. Dorr (Kyle); two step-grandchildren: Alexis D. Weicht and Drew E. Weicht (Elizabeth); a step-great-grandson Braxton L. Brumbaugh; a sister Shirley (Mock) Bakken (Verne), a brother David L. Hillegass (Sharon), a brother Barry L. Hillegass (Kimberly), a sister Yvonne (Mock) Toth (Bob), a brother Terry W. Hillegass (Sherry); and many uncles, aunts, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother Helen, step-mother Mae, three grandchildren, infant brother Todd Eugene, a brother Galen, and paternal grandparents Emmens and Leda Hillegass.
Paula worked for her father and step-mother at the local racetrack, Bedford County Fair, and for Mae’s Diner where she was a waitress and cook. She enjoyed her granddaughter Micah and supported her in all her sporting events. She was the light of her life. Paula loved the Pittsburgh Steelers, doing crossword puzzles, and getting her nails done. The family would like to send a very special thank you to her extended family, the nurses and staff of Pennknoll Village, where she resided her last fourteen years.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Kelly Hillegass officiating. Burial at Lybarger Cemetery. Friends will be received on Friday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
