Patricia “Pat” Buffett Detwiler 84, of Bedford died at home surrounded by her family on December 15, 2021. Pat was an only child born to John and Doris Buffett on May 1, 1937. She called Pennsylvania her home for most of those years. Her family grew considerably when she met Paul Jr. at Gettysburg College on an ice cream date and they married October 5, 1957 in Mercersburg. After a stint in France and the birth of their first child, Paul III, they settled in Meadowbrook Terrace where they would build a family. While Pat was busy raising five children, she always found time for volunteer work with the Hospital Auxiliary, football boosters, Bedford Fair, Bedford Presbyterian Church, cemetery refurbishment, Fall Foliage Festival, symphony, and the Boy Scouts to name a few. Her sense of giving back and “leaving the world a bit better than you found it” was felt by those around her. There is an embroidery sampler that hung on her wall “To Loved and Be Loved is the Greatest Gift of All” – she was loved by and adored by her husband Paul for 61 years until his death in 2018. They were true partners in life and in family and Paul never left the house without a kiss to Pat. She is survived by her children, Paul III and wife Sandy of Everett; Steve and wife Gina of Furlong; Joann and husband Roby of Denver, CO; Jennifer and husband Jim of Bedford; Jeffrey and wife Erin of Lancaster. Pat and Paul celebrated 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. There aren’t adequate words to describe how she will be missed but what we will remember most is family time around the dining room table, holiday gatherings, family trips, Thanksgiving hikes, words of encouragement and love that will live on in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Heartfelt thanks to the amazing team of caregivers that helped Pat through the last few years. Funeral Services will be private. Arrangements by the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions in memory of Pat to the Bedford Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 7, Bedford, PA 15522, or the Old Bedford Village, 220 Sawblade Road Bedford, PA 15522.
