Merle E. Diehl

Merle E. Diehl 95, of Bedford, died Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at Pennknoll Village Nursing Home.  He was born on November 5, 1924 in Bedford, a son of the late Lloyd E. and Mary (Beegle) Diehl.  On October 6, 1950 in Bedford he married Ruth (Koontz) Diehl who preceded him in death on February 16, 2020.  He is survived by two daughters: Donna K. Roberts and husband Sam, of Bedford, and Doris M. Evans and husband Dean, of Red Lion; a son Jerry L. Diehl, of Bedford; five grandchildren: JoEllen Weaverling and husband Mike, Justin Roberts and wife Kate, Jeff Evans and wife Julie, Jason Evans and wife Katie, and Colt Diehl; and ten great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by a grandson, Bryan Evans; three brothers: Allen, Harold, and Raymond Diehl; and a sister Madelyn McPherson.

Merle was a WWII Veteran and retired as Plant Supervisor for Hedstrom.  He was a Deacon, Elder, and Sunday School Superintendent at St. John’s UCC Church, in Bedford, and enjoyed volunteering with his wife at Pennknoll Village.

Funeral services will be private, with burial at Friends Cove UCC Church.  Arrangements by the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford.  In lieu of flowers those wishing may make memorial contributions in Merle’s name to: St. John’s UCC, 144 W.
