Melva C. (Mel) Taylor of Bedford died Friday October 29, 2021 at her residence. She was born June 17, 1949 in Dundalk, MD, the daughter of Melvin C. and Evelyn Abendschein. She was preceded in death by her parents and a stepson Barry Sullivan of Baltimore, MD. She is survived by her husband Barry N. Taylor of Bedford, a son Joseph Sullivan and fiance Christy of Mechanicsville, Va. and daughter Misty Sullivan Snellings and husband Stanley (Tre) also of Mechanicsville VA.,and two sisters, June Pallo and husband John of York, PA and Frances Brown and husband Gerald of Seville, OH. and four grandchildren, two step grandchildren and one great stepchild, several nieces and nephews and her best friend her dog Shiloh.
Mel graduated from Dundalk High in 1967. After high school, she went to work for Western Electric which later became Lucent Technologies and went on to work for them for 31 yrs and retired at the age of 50. On May 25th, 2001 she married Barry Taylor in Treasure Beach, Jamaica. She enjoyed looking for treasures at thrift shops, working around the house and doing yardwork. She loved animals and kept all the critters in the neighborhood well fed. Her favorite place in the world was Emerald Isle, NC where she spent at least two months a year. Mel was a loving, caring mother, wife and friend. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Barry would like to thank UPMC Hospice and especially Brittany for all the love and care they gave Mel during her illness.
