John A. Wertz, 76, of Everett, died on Monday, December 14, 2020 at UPMC Passavant – McCandless Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was born on February 11, 1944 in Bedford, a son of the late John A. and Janet L. (Miller) Wertz. On April 23, 1966 in Bedford, he married Linda L. (Amick) Wertz who survives along with the following family, two sons: Thomas A. Wertz and wife Tammy of Schellsburg, and Timothy A. Wertz also of Schellsburg; two sisters: Janice Ann Heming and husband Richard of Bedford, and Joan Ellen Black and husband Clair of Bedford; one brother, James E. Wertz and wife Patricia of Bedford; three grandchildren: Brandy Ringler and husband Christian, Jessica Wertz and boyfriend Barry Hillegass, and Jordan Wertz.
John served with the Army National Guard for 39 years and also worked for his father’s contracting company John A. Wertz & Son. He enjoyed hunting, going to races at Jennerstown Speedway and processing deer for many people at his home. He was very involved with the Boy Scouts in the area, and bowling with the Altoona Bowling Assoc. He was past administrator for the Bedford Moose Lodge # 480, and volunteered for the Royal Rangers Post #341.
Funeral services will be private. Burial at Ritchey Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.
