Jane Black Obituary

 

Jane K. Black, 96, of Bedford died on Sunday, September 12, 2021, at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital. She was born on March 13, 1925, in Manns Choice, a daughter of the late Warren L. and Mary Rebecca (Shunk) Kegg. On March 22, 1944 in Cumberland, MD she married Galen Black who survives along with two sons:  Lindley D. Black and wife Bonnie of Mechanicsburg; Terry L. Black and wife Patricia of Elizabethtown; two daughters: Mary Jane Black and husband David Raymond of Bedford; Connie Black Scanga of Malvern; six grandchildren:  Pamela LaShomb and husband David of Port St. Lucie, FL; Andrea L. Black of Mt. Joy; Allison Downing and husband Thomas of Mt. Joy; Justin M. Black and wife Katherine of Collegeville; Sara E. Scanga and husband Charles Schirmer of Cazenovia, NY, and Carrie A. Scanga and husband Ron Harrity of Portland, ME; two step-grandsons:  David A. Raymond and wife Robin of Manchester; and Jacob J. Raymond of Bedford; seven great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by a son, Eric V. Black and one brother, Melvin Kegg.

Jane was a 1943 graduate of Bedford High School.  She was a member of the St. John's United Church of Christ and was very active teaching Sunday school for over 70 years, leading bible studies, playing the piano, singing in the choir, helping prepare meals for the church and for the community dinners,  and sewing for church outreach programs.  She worked for various businesses in Bedford through the years, including Alwine’s, Singer Sewing, and Koontz Music. Her favorite hobbies were cooking, baking, sewing, traveling, camping, and crossword puzzles.

Funeral Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers those wishing may make memorial contributions in Jane’s name to the St. John’s United Church of Christ, 144 West John Street, Bedford, PA 15522. Arrangements by the Timothy A.
