James F. Claycomb 89, of Bedford, formerly, of Fish Hatchery Road, New Paris, passed away Thursday, July 20, 2023. Mr. Claycomb was born on April 6, 1934, a son of the late Joseph and Olive Claycomb. He was married to Joan H. (Slack) Claycomb who preceded him in death on February 25, 2017. He is survived by a son Jeffrey J. Claycomb and girlfriend Cindy Kelley, of Bedford; grandson Breton J. Claycomb, of Ebensburg, two granddaughters: Erin E. Claycomb, of Germantown, MD, and Amber M. Claycomb, of Altoona; and three sisters: Norma Ferguson, Violet Aveni, and Linda ‘Jeannie” Frost. He was preceded in death by two sisters: Evelyn Braman, and Harriet Miller; and a brother Joseph “Ed” Claycomb.
James was a 1952 graduate of Schellsburg Napier High School, and served in the United States Air Force from 1952 until 1956. He worked for the Pa Department of Transportation from 1965 until 1991, when he retired as a Highway and Bridge Inspector. He then worked for a number of years for various engineering companies on highway projects. James enjoyed hunting, fishing, flea markets, and public auctions. He was a member of the Dunnings Creek Church of the Brethren.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Pastor Vaughn Loose officiating. Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park, with full military rites conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard. Friends will be received on Tuesday, from 10:00 a.m., until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
