Jae Richard “Ric” Berkebile, 76 of Bedford, died on Sunday, March 21, 2021 at UPMC Altoona Hospital. He was born on September 27, 1944, in Johnstown, a son of the late Blaine R. and Lavade (Parks) Berkebile. On October 4, 1980, in Bedford, he married his best friend and wife of 40 years Jane (Hughes) Berkebile who survives along with the following family: two daughters, Jocelyn Swanick and husband Bill of Huntersville, NC; Leah Lybarger and husband Dustin of Bedford; three grandchildren: Rylee, and Kyla Lybarger, and Jake Swanick; one brother Timothy A. Berkebile and wife Cindy of Bedford; two nephews, Mark Berkebile and wife Susan of Chambersburg; and Aaron Berkebile and wife Amber of Bedford. He was preceded in death by his first wife Mary Ann and a sister-in-law Lynne.
Ric worked for New Enterprise Stone and Lime, Kennametal and then owned his own painting business for 35 years. He was a collector and owner of Berkebile Sleigh & Buggy. He enjoyed his three grandchildren, going to PSU games, Nascar races, watching golf and Tiger Woods, driving around town and visiting the airport, and fishing and being a homeowner at his place in Avalon. He was a life member of the Bedford Fire Department a member of the Bedford Elks Lodge #1707, the Corvette Club and was a prior board member of the Bedford Borough zoning committee. In Ric’s younger years along with Bernard Rock the two would setup the Christmas displays on top of the mountain behind the Elks.
