Howard Max Short, 91, of New Paris, died on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at his residence. He was born on August 7, 1930, in Darke County, OH a son of the late Thomas and A. Irene (Smith) Short. On July 13, 1975, in Bedford, he married Alice "Babes" (Fleegle) Short who preceded him in death on November 9, 2013. He is survived by a son, Steve Short and wife Marie of Greenville, OH; two daughters, Lynn Kuhnle of Union, OH, and Gale Vertz and husband Toby of Kansas City, KS; three step-daughters: Nancy Woods widow of William of Bedford, Sandra Rouzer and husband Rob of Roaring Spring, Priscilla Haines of Somerset; one step-son Rusty Foor and wife Sharon of Everett; a special niece Melissa Pentrack of New Paris; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; one sister Carolyn Nicholson of Fountain City, IN; and a brother Ken Short of Waverly, OH. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Elaine Wolf, a step-daughter Jane McGuire widower David who survives of Bedford; one sister: Lois and three brothers: Don, Wayne, and Phillip.
Max attended church with his wife at Pine Grove Church. He served in the U.S. Army and drove truck for 46 years and retired with Eastern Trucking Company. Max never met a stranger, he enjoyed going to yard sales, collecting antiques, reading, and spending time with his family.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 3, 2022, at 12:00 p.m., in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford, with Jim Miller officiating. Burial will be private. Friends will be received on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
