Harold Early Johnson Jr. “Mr. J” 83, of Bedford, died Sunday, November 5, 2023 at his residence. He was born on December 26, 1939 in Washington, D.C. a son of the late Harold E. and Candice (Nowlin) Johnson Jr. On August 3, 1978 in Marlboro, MD he married Phyllis (Johnson) Johnson who survives along with two daughters: Joycelyn Johnson, of Clinton, MD and Kimberly Bryant and husband Michael Morgan, of Clinton, MD; three grandchildren: Marc Bryant and wife Talonda, of Orlando, FL, Michael Morgan of Clinton, MD, and Cory Bryant and wife Leaha, of Chesapeake, VA; a brother Calvin V. Johnson, of Washington, D.C, and cousins JWB Richardson and wife Tammy.
Harold served in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1963. He then worked in the Washington, D.C. Hospital as a lab technician, and then as a correction officer for the D.C. Department of Corrections until retirement. After retirement he moved to Bedford and was a school bus driver for Stahl Busing, and later Snyder Bus Lines, as well as a Pennsylvania State Constable. He was a member of the Mt. Pisgah AME. Zion Church, Bedford County Posse, American Legion Riders, Bedford Lions Club, Bedford Vol. Fire Dept, and volunteered at the Bedford Food Bank, and the Bedford County Food Bank.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Brother Josh Krupa and Rev. Vincent Martin officiating. Burial will be private. Friends will be received on Saturday, from 9:00 a.m., until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
