George Morgart Obituary

George Larry Morgart, 81, of Valley Road,  Bedford, died on Thursday March 24, 2022. He was born on August 6, 1940 at the family farm in Colerain Township, a son of the late George Perry and Ada Grace (Diehl) Morgart. He married Patricia (Brown) Morgart who survives along with two sons:  Michael Morgart and wife Laurie of Bedford, Stephen Morgart and wife Inez of Hillsboro, VA; three grandsons: George Aaron Morgart of Durham, NC, Bradley Morgart and wife Candelaria of Silver Spring, MD, Nicholas Morgart of Hillsboro, VA; two step-grandchildren: Julie Baroni of Lancaster, and Timothy Baroni and wife Maria of Stoystown; and a special nephew, Rande Brown of Bedford.  He was preceded in death by two brothers, Tom and Bob Morgart.

Larry was a 1958 graduate of Bedford High School and served four years with the U.S. Navy before graduating from Greer Technical School in Chicago trained as a heavy equipment operator.  He belonged to the Operating Engineers Local 66 for over 56 years, retiring in August 2000 to enjoy travel and woodworking.  Many of his specialty replica new England gathering baskets were donated to local fundraisers.  He and Pat hosted many social events in their barn where Larry was a fun DJ and Pat the hostess to family and friends.  Hunting season was a special part of the Morgart life with friends and family gathering there.  Larry was a longtime member of the Friends Cove Sportsman’s Club and helped form the Friends Cove Historical Society, the Colerain Recreation Council where he coached baseball, and was President of the Fort Bedford Snowmobile Club and a member of the Fort Bedford C.B. Club. 

A celebration of Larry’s life be held at a later date.  Burial at Woods Church Cemetery.  Arrangements by the Timothy A.
