George S. Bowman
June 20, 1936 ~ August 12, 2022 (age 86) 86 Years Old
George S. Bowman 86, of Bedford, died Friday, August 12, 2022 at his residence. He was born on June 20, 1936 in Nanty Glo a son of the late Eugene and Margaret (Ondriezek) Bowman. On August 18, 1954 in Nanty Glo he married Beverly A. (Reed) Bowman who preceded him in death on February 3, 2019. He is survived by two children: George D. Bowman and wife Diane, of Belsano, and Margaret Bowen, of Grayson, GA; two grandchildren: Michael Bowman, of Boykins, VA, and Renee Laughard and husband Michael, of Twin Rocks; six great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and two sisters: Jane Brown and husband George, of Bedford, and Clara Johnson and husband Michael, of Johnstown. He was preceded in death by a son Ralph E. Bowman, and a adopted sister Thelma Richards.
George served in the US Airforce and retired after 20 years earning the rank of TSGT. Following retirement he worked for Fisher’s Scientific, owned and operated B&G Sporting Goods in Nanty Glo, and drove School Bus in the Bedford School District. George was an Eagle Scout, and later become a Scout Leader that helped with Boy Scout program locally and internationally. He was also a member and Past Governor of the Bedford Lions Club, and was a member of the Bedford American Legion Post #113. While living in Nanty Glo he was an EMT with Blacklick Valley Ambulance Service. He enjoyed hunting and woodworking.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at 1:00 p.m., in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford with Father Richard Tomkosky officiating. Entombment at Bedford County Memorial Park. Friends will be received on Wednesday, from 11:00 a.m., until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
