Genevieve “Rusty” Giornesto, 99, of Vero Beach, FL, formerly of North Hutchinson Island FL, and Bedford, died on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at the residence of her daughter Kim, and son-in-law Glenn in Florida. She was born on May 7, 1924, in Huntingdon, a daughter of the late Alexander and Cora (Livingston) Johnson. On July 12, 1953 in Huntingdon, she married Sam Giornesto and he preceded her in death on March 13, 2006. She is survived by a daughter: Kim Burket and husband Glenn of Vero Beach, FL; four grandchildren: Kristian Skvarka and wife Annelies of Chambersburg; Nicole Ricker of Chambersburg; Glenn Burket III and wife Amanda of Grand Junction, CO; Lauren Roberts and husband Josh of Pittsburgh; six great-grandchildren; and one sister Maxine Sheaffer of Harrisburg. She was preceded in death by a daughter Marie Diane Sheaffer; four sisters: Mary Long, Maude Conpropst, Frances Long, and Jeanette Hammers; and one brother James Hammers.
Genevieve was a member of the Church of the Brethren and taught Sunday school for a number of years in Huntingdon and Saxton. She graduated from Huntingdon High School in 1942 and after graduation she worked for Dr. William B. West and Dr. Evan Huston. She and her husband owned Giornesto Insurance Agency where she worked until her retirement. She enjoyed traveling with her husband throughout the United States, Canada and many foreign countries. She also enjoyed gardening and her flowers.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 7, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Bedford County Memorial Park with Rev. Jack Miller officiating. Friends will be received on Monday one hour prior to the graveside service at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford.
