Dorothy P. Beatty of Homestead and Munhall passed away at the home of her son James in Bedford, on Sunday, July 9, 2023 at the age of 101. She was happy and active until the end. In her younger days she was very active in the St. Mary Magdalene Parish and school. Beginning work at a very young age, she had odd jobs for pay and volunteer work at the school as a librarian. She took time off to raise two sons, James and Lawrence, with her husband James E. Beatty. When her sons began their careers, she took on a new role. She began her own career as a librarian at the Carnegie Library of Homestead. She enjoyed her time there and retired after 30 years of service to the community.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband James E. Beatty; her parents Andrew and Mary Ferer; three brothers: Robert, Edward, and Richard; and a sister Marilyn. Also, her youngest son Lawrence and his wife Darlene (Walnick) Beatty, and her daughter-in-law Marion Beatty, wife of her son James. She is survived by a family who loved and supported her. Her eldest son, James J. Beatty of Bedford, five grandchildren: Paul Beatty and wife Kristen, of Munhall, Christine Beatty, of Munhall, Ryan Beatty and wife LeighAnn, of Camp Hill, Jennifer (Beatty) Zendek and husband James, of Harrisburg, and Charles Beatty and wife Bethany, of Cumberland, MD; seven great-grandchildren: Jordan and Paige Butko, of Munhall, Emma and Owen Beatty, of Camp Hill, Aubrey and Alivia Zendek, of Harrisburg with another sister on the way, and Brilynn Beatty, of Cumberland, MD.
Family and friends will be received at the SAVOLSKIS-WASIK-GLENN FUNERAL HOME INC., 3501 Main Street, Munhall on Thursday, July 13, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A Funeral Mass will be Friday, July 14, 10:00 AM, at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church of the St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, Homestead. Burial at St. Mary Magdalene Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Carnegie Library of Homestead, or Community Life of Bedford, in Dorothy’s name. Local arrangements by the Timothy A.
