Donna "Grace" (Creighton) Ickes, 72 of Osterburg passed away on Friday, February 24, 2017 after her third courageous battle with cancer. She was born on November 7, 1944, in Cessna, a daughter of the late Ray and Rose (Hatch) Creighton. On September 11, 1964, in Cumberland, MD, she married her husband of 52 years, James Ickes, who survives along with two daughters: Betsie Neff and husband Brad, and Maria Mannion and husband Eric; a son James Ickes and wife Christine, all of Osterburg; six grandchildren: Olivia Lewis, Jake Mannion, Jack Ickes, Sam Neff, Aiden Mannion, and Eli Ickes, a brother Nick Boyles and wife Mina of Anchorage, Alaska; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends. She was preceded in death by a sister Dolores "Jean" (Creighton) Christian.
Grace was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Osterburg, and enjoyed bible studies and fellowship with friends. Grace inspired students through her teaching at the Chestnut Ridge School District for 35 years. She was passionate about literature, sewing, art, and collecting antiques. She also enjoyed baking, gardening, and having tea with family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, February 27, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., at the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, in Osterburg, with Vicar Kathy Popp officiating. Friends and family will be received from 10:00 a.m., until the hour of the service on Monday at the church.
