Donald L. Hillegass

Donald L. Hillegass 89, of Alum Bank, died Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital.  He was born on October 30, 1934 in Schellsburg a son of the late Roy and Blanche Hillegass.  On June 14, 1948 in Chambersburg he married Shirley (Feaster) Hillegass who survives along with four children: Sherry Crawford and husband Greg, of Imler, Gwyn Eicher and husband Blaine, of Queen, Lynne Claar and husband Mark, of Claysburg, and James Hillegass and wife Sonya, of Bedford; 7 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five siblings: Catherine Pittman, Faye Blackburn, Forrest, Palmer, and Robert Hillegass.

Donald worked at the Brickyard in Claysburg, drove school van for Charlie Maxwell, and retired from McQuaid Trucking after 37 years. He was a John Deere enthusiast, and enjoyed taking his 1944 John Deere LA to tractor shows.  He will be sorely missed.
