Betty Mountain Obituary

Betty Louise Mountain, 93, of Bedford went to be with the Lord on November 26, 2020 following complications from a recent hospitalization. She was born on September 21, 1927 in Ursina, a daughter of the late Warren and Anna (Parker) Younkin.  She was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Mountain.  Betty is survived by her four daughters:  Diane Prostko and husband Ed of Williamsburg; Linda Smithson and husband John of Mechanicsville VA; Barbara Rummel and husband Brian of Sneads Ferry, NC; and Sherri Crawford and husband Edward “Ted” of Johnstown; eight grandchildren; fourteen great- grandchildren; two great- great -grandchildren; one brother George Younkin of Erie; and she leaves behind her long- time companion Martin Dean of Bedford, who is described as the "love of her life." She was preceded in death by one brother John R. Younkin.

Following high school, Betty was employed by Sani-Dairy and Bestform in Johnstown. Eventually, she would come to own the Greater Ferndale Hardware where family and friends would frequent. Betty was known for the parties she threw, the abundance of life-long friends she made, but is best remembered for her love of family, friends and all who knew her. She would eventually move from Johnstown to Bedford for the second half of her life, where she continued to make lifelong friends. She was adventurous, curious, and generous. Betty's favorite place was wherever her family was, and if there was chocolate there too, well that was just icing on the cake. She enjoyed spending time at her cabin in Bedford, listening and dancing to music, and long car rides through the countryside.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at the convenience of the family in 2021.

The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff at Windber hospice for the care and compassion they bestowed upon her during her stay. Contributions may be made to Windber Hospice, 600 Somerset Ave., Windber, PA 15963. Arrangements by the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford. Our online guestbook is available at www.berkebilefuneralhome.com.
