Bettie Mason Obituary

Bettie Louise Mason 87, of Martinsburg, passed away peacefully in her home at Homewood at Martinsburg after a brief illness.   She was born in Linn County, Oregon a daughter of the late Elwyn Rexford Pearl and Edna Mae Scott.  She grew up in Benton County, Oregon and graduated from Corvallis High School. Bettie was a third generation descendant of pioneers who travelled the Oregon Trail to settle in the Brownsville Area of Linn County, Oregon. Bettie was preceded in death by her husband Donald Lovell Mason.  She is survived by four daughters and their spouses: Cathie Stumpenhaus, Lee Day and Steve Robbins, Chrystal and David Watros, Lisa and William Defibaugh; two step-children and their spouses: Randi and Richard Wood, Forest and Sheri Mason; three grandsons and their wives: Arren and Maggie Day, Nathan and Carissa Day, Ryan and Amanda Chandler; one granddaughter Courtney Garndinier; three step-grandchildren: David, Tiffany and April; three great-grandsons: Renlee, Calaen and Henry; three sisters: Deanna Weger Watkins, Ellen Weger, and Elaine Weger Boyce; and numerous nieces, nephews, and a number of cousins.  Bettie was preceded in death by two brothers: Donald Pearl and William Weger; and two sisters: Vernita Weger Sanders, and Lola Lee Weger Tribble Kinion.

Bettie was a very talented artist and musician.  She loved music, history, trips with her sister Deanna, and most of all enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  Bettie and her family lived in California until she moved to Bedford in 2005, and then to nearby Homewood at Martinsburg in 2018.  She was a member of Bedford County Christian Church.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Homewood at Martinsburg staff who made her last years the best years.  They became family to her and made sure that her every need was met.  During her final days, they surrounded her with tremendous love.  The family would also like to thank UPMC Family Hospice for the care and support they provided.

A memorial service for friends and family will be held at the Bedford County Christian Church, 10229 Lincoln Highway, Everett, PA on July 25, 2021 at 10:30 a.m.  A celebration of life will be held at later time with her family in Oregon where her final wishes will be carried out.  Arrangements by the Timothy A.
