Barbara Grace (Poland) McGinnes

Barbara Grace McGinnes, 76, of Bedford, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 5, 2024 at UPMC Altoona Hospital.  She was born on October 4, 1947 in Bedford a daughter of the late Thomas and Effie Mae (Bender) Poland.  On May 24, 1986 she married the Leon McGinnes and he preceded her in death on December 22, 1991. 

Barbara is survived by one daughter Susan Conrath and husband Michael of Bedford; and two grandsons: SPC Jacob Conrath, 101st Airborne Division of Fort Campbell, KY and his fiancé Katie Miller of Bedford; and Joseph Conrath at home.  She is also survived by one sister Connie Banks and husband Jerry of Columbia, NC; and two brothers: James Casteel and wife Barbara of Bedford; and Anthony Poland also of Bedford; and a special cousin Donna Vinsky of Red Lion; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she loved dearly. Barbara was preceded in death by an infant brother Thomas Poland.

Barbara was a graduate of Bedford Area High School class of 1965.  She was employed with Bermedlin, Inc., which included the Arena Restaurant, Landmark Restaurants, and Quality Inn, as a bookkeeper for nearly 40 years.  After retiring she also worked for several years as a bookkeeper for the Fishertown Country Store. She was a dedicated and hard-working person. 

Barbara was a member of Pleasant Hill Bible Church of Bedford, where she served as the church treasurer for 18 years.  She also served on the Bedford County Children & Youth Advisory Board for many years.  She was an avid bowler in the Pioneer Bowling League for over 30 years.  During that time, she chaired an annual Christmas auction for several years that benefited locally disadvantaged children.  Barbara also enjoyed scrapbooking and cross-stitching.  She made many treasured albums and trinkets for her family.  Barbara was a quiet, gentle, and kind person of deep faith who was loved by many.  She was a devoted mother and grandmother, a wonderful sister, and a good friend.  The greatest joys of her life were her grandsons, Jacob and Joey, and her daughter, Susan.  She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. A funeral service will be held at Pleasant Hill Bible Church in Bedford on Friday, January 12, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Deken George officiating.  Burial will be Private.  Friends will be received on Thursday from 5- 7 p.m. at the Timothy A.
