Barbara Buterbaugh Obituary

Barbara Sharon Buterbaugh 74, of Hollidaysburg passed away on Monday, July 22, 2019 at Maybrook Hills in Altoona.  She was born on July 26, 1944, in Latrobe, a daughter of the late Jack Miller and Amanda (Hartsock) Miller-Swan.  Sharon was a 1962 graduate of Bedford High School, and attended the University of Pittsburgh in Johnstown, and on August 21, 1965 married Louis ‘Kim’ Buterbaugh in Bedford. She is survived by Kim Buterbaugh, of Bedford; thier three children: a son Chad Buterbaugh and companion Lynne McDonough, of Hollidaysburg, a daughter Johanna Kelly and husband Christopher, of Vestal, NY, and a son Jerrod Buterbaugh, of Wake Forest, NC; six grandchildren: Chloe Hawk, Sarah, Patrick, and Christopher Kelly, Samuel and Max Buterbaugh; two great-grandchildren; two sisters: Deanna Shimer, of Florida, and Zona Elkins, of North Carolina; and a brother Jack Miller, of North Carolina.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Arduth Bortz.

Sharon had various part time positions while being a full time ‘Mom’, taking care of raising the children.  From 1981 to 1990 she held a full time position at Hollidaysburg Trust Co. as a bank teller and account specialist. Sharon loved the simple life, the simple things in life of times gone by. Sharon enjoyed the peace and quiet of gardening, reading a good book, and the beauty Mother Nature had to offer.  She also enjoyed watercolor painting, entertaining the neighborhood kids, and participating in outdoor activities with Kim.  Most of all, she loved the time spent with her children and grandchildren.  Sharon had a quiet demeanor about her that added to her beauty.  Unfortunately, Sharon was inflicted with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 54 and had been in a home for the past eight years.  The family is grateful for the good care and compassion she received at Maybrook Hills in Altoona.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing. Funeral services will be private and at the discretion of the family.  In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Sharon’s name to your favorite charity.  Arrangements by the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford.  Our online guestbook is available at www.berkebilefuneralhome.com.
