Austin McAllister Greenland “Mac” 78, of Bedford, PA formerly of Westmont, PA died surrounded by his loving family on September 30, due to Parkinson’s disease. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles R. Greenland and Martha (McAllister) Greenland.
On September 2, 1972 in Berlin, PA he married Patricia (Baker) Greenland and she survives of Bedford along with a son, Austin McAllister Greenland II and wife Joelle and a granddaughter Addison McAllister Greenland all of Manchester, VT. Also two brothers, Charles R. Greenland Jr. and wife Elizabeth of Towson, MD, and Daniel C. Greenland and wife Therese of Yardley, PA.
He graduated from Bedford High School in 1961, received a Bachelor’s Degree from Lock Haven University 1965, a Masters degree from Bloomsburg University in 1970, and administrative certificate from Penn State University in 1972. His career experiences included building Principal for the Lewistown School District, assistant Elementary Supervisor for the Windber School District, Elementary Supervisor at Tussey Mountain School District, and ended his educational career at Westmont Hilltop School District as Middle School Principal.
Mac was dedicated to the concept of first responder. He was a certified instructor as an EMT and numerous fire courses such as Legal Aspects, Interpersonal Dynamics, and Incident Command. He holds the first Certificate in the Pennsylvanian State professional Fire program. He held the position of Fire Chief for Westmont Volunteer Fire Department #28. Upon retirement from the school system he was on the faculty of the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland. While there he was responsible for writing, evaluating, and teaching courses. On the Emmitsburg campus he was known as the instructor who wore a kilt as he had strong ties to his Scottish heritage. He was a principle in the consulting firm of “Fortier” Associates”.
Mac was an avid deer hunter and loved hunting pheasants with his Vizsla bird dogs. He loved history and had a passion for Bedford County long rifles.
Mac served on the Board of Directors for Old Bedford Village, was a member of Masonic Blue Lodge #320 in Bedford, as well as a member of the Harrisburg Consistory Knight Templar, Jaffa Shrine in Altoona, PA and was an active member of the Bedford Presbyterian Church.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 11:00 a.m., at the Bedford Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Jack Miller officiating. Burial at Bedford Cemetery. Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service at the church on Saturday.
