Wilma J. Wingard

June 30, 1924 — October 13, 2015

Wilma Jean (Ebersole) (Cubbage) Wingard, 91 of Cumberland, MD, died Tuesday, October 13, 2015, at the Golden Living Center, in Cumberland, Md. She was born on June 30, 1924, in Bedford, a daughter of the late Dewey and Cora (Amick) Ebersole. She was preceded in death by her first husband of 46 years, Charles E. “Chick” Cubbage, who died June 1, 1992.  On April 17, 1999, she married Albert Wingard, who preceded her in death on June 19, 2007.

She is survived by a daughter, Pastor Vicki J. Cubbage, of LaVale, MD, a daughter-in-law, Sue E. Cubbage, of Cumberland, MD; four grandchildren: Troy Cubbage and wife Abby, Tammy Didawick and husband Joe, Bill Liller, and wife Crystal, and Adam Liller; four great-grandchildren: Randy Cubbage, Aslyn Didawick, Harley Didawick, and Laci Liller; one step grandchild:  Amanda Hewlin;  five step great grandchildren:  Timmy, Katie, Kaleb, Skylee, and Kyle; a sister Harriet Koontz, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She was preceded in death by a son Randy Cubbage, and a brother Joseph Ebersole.

Jean graduated from Bedford High School in 1942, and Western Maryland Memorial Hospital School of Nursing class of 1945. Her last six months of training were spent at the Kennedy General Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee as a cadet nurse. She was a private duty nurse for several years, and an evening charge nurse at Memorial Hospital for 26 years, totaling 46 years as a nurse. She was a member and past president of the Western Maryland Nurses Alumni Association. Jean was a member of Centre Street United Methodist Church, circle leader for four years, and past president of the United Methodist Women of Centre Street Church.

Jean enjoyed gardening, both indoors and out, knitting, cooking, traveling, especially taking cruises, and was an avid 500 player.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 19, 2015 at 12:00 p.m., in the Chapel, at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Rev. Jeff Welsch officiating. burial at Rocky Gap Veteran’s Cemetery. Friends will be received on Monday 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family requests that memorials take the form of donations to the Randy Cubbage Scholarship Fund @ Centre Street United Methodist Church, 217-219 N. Centre Street,Cumberland, Md. 21502
