William R. “Tug” Turner, 77, of Bedford, died on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at his residence. He was born on April 16, 1948 in Sunbury, a son of the late William A. and Jean (Reed) Turner. On June 26, 1971 in Bethel Park, he married Kathleen A. (Mulvihill) Turner who survives along with the following family, two sons, William Turner of Northumberland and Sean Michael Turner and wife Sarah of Pittsburgh; three grandchildren Jeff, Birdie Jean, and Lottie Claire; two great-grandchildren, Landon and Jackson; and one sister, Lana Gulden of Northumberland.
Tug was quite a renaissance man. He had a degree in business education from Indiana University and was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He then went later on to receive his Masters’s degree in finance from Shippensburg University. He taught Business education for 34 years for Chestnut Ridge School District. Aside from teaching he enjoyed being a ham radio operator, an artist, a photographer, a hang glider, a rock climber, a sailor, a scuba diver, and a kayaker. He was a 20 plus year member and a Commander for the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He coached little league baseball, boy’s gymnastics and was an advisor for the high school skiing team.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford.
