William H. Snyder, Jr., 76, of South Richard Street, Bedford, Pennsylvania, died Tuesday, June 9th, 2026. He was born July 24, 1949, in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, the eldest of four sons of the late William H. Snyder, Sr., and Dorothy W. Snyder. He was married to Carol Ann Hine on September 7, 1969. She survives, along with the following children: Jennifer S. Judd, April E. Ressler, married to Jason Ressler, and William H. Snyder, III, all of Bedford, and six grand-children: Steven and Kevin Ressler, Liam, Austin, Lincoln and Isabelle Snyder. He is also survived by two brothers: Edward, of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Reginald, of Roanoke, Virginia. His brother Herbert predeceased him in 2016.
Mr. Snyder was a graduate of Bedford High School in Bedford (1967), Penn State University in State College (1971), and the Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle (1975). Later he completed a program of teacher certification at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh (2007). He practiced law in Bedford since 1975, initially in partnership with his father and then as a solo practitioner. He also taught Latin and French at Bedford High School from 1999 to 2013.
He was a member of the Bedford United Methodist Church since 1961 and sang in the choir. When younger, he played trombone with the Fred Shannon Smith orchestra. He was active as an actor and director with the Bedford County Players for over thirty years beginning in the 1980s. For various lengths of time he made pencil drawings, crafted some furniture, cooked an occasional meal, road-biked for a decade or so, and regularly did the New York Times crossword puzzle.
A service will be held at Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home on Thursday, June 18, at 1 p.m. The family will welcome guests beginning at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a contribution in Bill’s honor to The Community Foundation for the Alleghenies, Penn Square Center, 127 South Juliana Street, Bedford, PA 15522 or online at cfalleghenies.org.
