William K.E. Kauffman, 85, of Division Street, Bedford, died Friday, June 3, 2005 at Pennknoll Village Nursing Home. He was born on March 20, 1920 in East Prospect, York County, A son of the late Earl B. and Alma (Silar) Kauffman. On September 11, 1920 in Winchester, Virginia, He married Mary Shaffer, who survives along with the following family, two daughters, Carole wife of Royce Waltman of Terre Haute, Indiana, and Karen wife of Michael Mucci of Havertown, two grandchildren Suzanne wife of Jon Beane and Kevin Waltman, two great grandchildren Samuel Waltman Beane & Lily Rebecca Beane, one brother, Bobby Earl Kauffman of York, and a sister, Doris Snyder of Wrightsville, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister Elizabeth Burg.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, and a member of the Church Choir, and served on the Council. He was with the Bedford Mason Lodge F&AM, Harrisburg Consistory and Jaffa Shrine for 50 Years, and American Legion Post 113. He was a member and 1st president of the Pennsylvania Fraternal Order of Police, and the Harmony Hill Singers. He retired as a lieutenant after 32 years with the Pennsylvania State Police. He also worked for Judge’s Snyder, Van Horn and Howsare as a Court Administrator and and also worked as a Probation Officer. Mr. Kauffman was dearly loved and respected by his family and numerous Friends.
Funeral Services Wednesday, June 8, 2005, at 11:00 AM from the Trinity Lutheran Church in Bedford, with the Pastor Raymond E. Short and Pastor Thomas Ekstrand officiating. Burial in East Prospect Cemetery in York County. Friends will be received on Tuesday form 6-9 PM, at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford where a Masonic service will be held at 8:30 PM.
