William F. Harkleroad, 76 of Main Road, Bedford went to be with his Lord, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at his home. He was born October 21, 1934 in Atwood, son of the late William B. and Margaret J. (McCullough) Harkleroad. On August 27, 1960 in Centerville, he married Joan E. Reeder, and she survives along with three children; Kerri wife of Larry Sarver of Alum Bank, Kristi wife of Richard Leonard, and Kevin W. Harkleroad, both of Bedford, two grandchildren; Ezekiel and Elivia Leonard, and a sister Dorlene widow of Donald B. Williams of Ashland, OH. He was preceded in death by a sister, Nelgean wife of Alvin E. Nave of Centerville.
Mr. Harkleroad was a member of the Bedford United Methodist Church, the Bedford American Legion. He retired in 1998 from Hedstrom Corp as a production control coordinator, after 31 years of service. He was a Korean Navy Veteran. He enjoyed attending Bedford High School sporting events, especially football. He also enjoyed playing with his grandchildren and being outdoors working in his yard. After his retirement he enjoyed working part time for Thomas Automotive and helping at the Bedford County Fair. In his earlier years, he was an avid golfer. He was greatly loved and will be missed by his family and all who knew him.
Funeral Services: Friday, March 4, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford with Rev. Jeff Welsch and Rev. Gary Boor officiating. Burial in the Union Cemetery in Centerville. Friends will be received on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
