Warden K. Hoover Jr, 84 of Lincoln Highway, Bedford, died Thursday, January 13, 2011 at Altoona Regional Hospital. He was born on September 25, 1926 in Bedford, a son of the late Warden K. and Lena M. (Bollman) Hoover. On May 6, 1949 in Cumberland, MD, he married Anna Louise “Betty” Way, and she survives along with three children; Vickie Hoover of Youngstown, Ohio, William Hoover married to the former Kathy Shippey of Bedford, and Deborah wife of Richard Drobenak of Aspers, six grandchildren; Melissa, wife of Galen Miller, Lisa and Jennifer Hoover, Brandon Drobenak and wife Valerie, Matthew and Emily Drobenak, and one great grandson Jacob Drobenak. He was preceded in death, by one brother Fred W. Hoover, husband of Betty Hoover of Bedford, one sister Esther Hixon and husband Russell, and an infant brother Virgil.
Mr. Hoover was a World War II Navy Veteran. He was a member of St. John’s UCC Church. He retired in 1989 from Blackburn-Russell Company and was in charge of the annual retirement dinners. He was actively involved in the Bedford County Fair, and enjoyed assisting people who needed help. He enjoyed being at all of his grandchildren’s activities, and visiting friends and relatives.
Funeral Services; Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s UCC Church in Bedford with Rev. Joseph Puleo officiating, Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park, with military rites conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard. Friends will be received on Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford and ½ hour prior to the service on Saturday morning at the church.
