Walter L. Herrit, 82, of Bedford, went to hold Gods hands on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at his residence. He was born on March 4, 1934, in Butler, a son of the late Freidrich and Violet (Linamen) Herrit. He was preceded in death by his first wife Dorothy L. (Dickey) Herrit, a daughter, Dorothy Alane Aldridge, a brother, Bernard Herrit, and a sister, Lorraine Angert. He is survived by wife Joanne (Shirley) Sumner Herrit, a son, Walter L. Herrit of TX; two daughters, Maryalice Hipson and husband Edward of Bedford, and Bonnie Chastain of TX; two step-sons, Alex Sumner and wife Marsha, and Dave Sumner. five grandchildren: Mathew Herrit, Jessica Jackson, Lara Aldridge, Haley Aldridge, and Caitlyn Downs, and 8 step-grandchildren.
Walter served in the USAF from July 31, 1952 to July 30, 1956. Afterwards he went on to be an Engineering Technician with the VA Hospitals. Even after his retirement from the VA, he continued with his engineering mindset. He loved working with tools and building things. Walter and his wife Joanne were active members of the Bedford Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. Walter was also a board member at Chalybeate Springs Ministries where he was helping to refurbish their building while teaching current residents some of those skills.
A memorial service will be held on, Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at the Bedford Christian Missionary Alliance Church with Rev. Steven Egbert officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the church.
