Walter C. Allen Jr.

Walter C. Allen Jr., 95, of Bedford Colonial Courtyard, died on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at Donahoe Manor Nursing Home. He was born on July 20, 1916, in Bedford, the son of the late Walter C. and Ethelle J. (Sinclair) Allen Sr. He was the last surviving member of his family.
Walter was a graduate of Bedford High School and a graduate of Lehigh University, class of 1938, while there he received a Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. In July of 1942 he enlisted in the Army Signal Corps and was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant in May of 1946. Walter first worked for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission as a construction inspector. He then retired in 1977 from the United Telephone Company starting out as a repairman and then becoming a Chief Engineer for the Eastern Division in Carlisle. He was a member of the Bedford Presbyterian Church, the Bedford Elks Lodge #1707, American Legion Post #113, Life Member of the Independent Telephone Pioneer Association, and the Telephone Pioneers of America.
