Virginia P. (Gilpin) Jay

Virginia P. Jay, 81, of Transfer, formerly of Breezewood, died on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at Nugent Personal Care Home in Hermitage. She was born on December 19, 1934, in Everett, a daughter of the late Earl and Janet (Pennell) Gilpin. On November 21, 1952, in Winchester, VA, she married Eugene Jay who survives along with the following family: daughter, Jerri wife of Jim Locke of Bedford, and a son, Dennis “Lynn” Jay and wife Terri (Rudkin) of Hermitage; four grandchildren: Amber, Kris, Preston, and Carly; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Gene Gilpin and wife Marie of Fishertown; and a sister, Fredarica Barkman, widow of Fred of Clearville.

Virginia attended Everett Southern High School.  She was a member of the Wesley Chapel Church, in Breezewood, and attended the Orangeville United Methodist Church.  She worked at the Gateway Restaurant in Breezewood, and the Thrift Drug Store in Hermitage.  She spent many years volunteering with the March of Dimes. She loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel, at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Rev. Chester Horton officiating.  Friends will be received on Friday from 5-8 p.m., at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.  Burial at Mt.
