Violet R. Ickes 84, of Bedford, died Friday, December 4, 2020 at Pennknoll Village Nursing Home. She was born on October 8, 1936, in Pavia, a daughter of the late Laman and Florence (Knee) Ickes. On March 27, 1956 she married Larry K. Ickes, who preceded her in death on May 12, 2009. She is survived by two children: a son Randy K. Ickes married to the former Linda Oldham, of Alum Bank, a daughter Robin Crissey and husband Dave, of Manns Choice, four grandchildren: Robby Ickes and wife Janelle, Brock Ickes and wife Shannon, Damien Crissey and wife Jamie, and her only granddaughter, Natasha Crissey; a step-granddaughter, Missy Black and husband Doug; seven great-grandchildren: Luke Ickes and wife Joanna, Brandon Ickes, Levi Ickes and wife Sidney, Brionne Ickes, Landon Ickes, Leah Ickes, and Elliot Crissey; and four step-great-grandchildren: Hayley Zimmerman and husband Clinton, Joshua, Devin, and Andy. Violet was blessed to have two great-great-grandchildren: Ryder Lynn and Waylon James, and a step-great-great-grandson, Beau Douglas, and a sister Estella Jones, of Hooversville. She was the youngest of fifteen siblings, fourteen of which have preceded her in death: infant C. Mearl Ickes, infant Ethel Benton, infant Virgie Ickes, Joe Ickes, John Ickes, Della Leber, Harry Ickes, Shannon Ickes, A. Lucretia Corles, Charles Benton, Chester Benton, Elsie Ickes, Loretta Allison, and Orville Ickes.
Violet was a hard working lady who was employed at Bestform in Winder for five years, and left to work at Hedstrom in Bedford, for twenty two years until she retired. She was a member of the Bedford American Legion Post #113, and the Bedford Moose Lodge #480. She was always be remembered as ‘The Best Cooker’ and having the best Sunday family dinners. She had the biggest heart and would have done anything for her family and friends.
