Vera B. Williams

Vera Bernice Williams, 89, of Homewood Apartments in Everett, formerly of Cumberland, MD, died June 11, 2012, at Homewood at Martinsburg.  She was born on June 9, 1923, in Centerville, a daughter of the late Jay C. and Carrie E. (Nave) Hite.   On May 15, 1945 in Hyde, MD she married Howard W. Williams and he preceded her in death on December 29, 2008.   She is survived by a son, Robert E. Williams married to the former Susan M. Lehman of Clinton, NC; four grandchildren Catherine and Samuel Williams of Clinton, NC, Dr. Ivanna Williams of Montclair, NJ, and Nicholas Williams of West Islip, NY; a nephew Harry J. Hite and wife Jeannie, of Bedford, a niece Bonnie Suveg and husband John, of Bedford, and special friends, Sharon and Hilary Donahoe of Bedford.  She was preceded in death by a son, John H. Williams husband of Daria Williams of West Islip, NY.

Vera was a member of Centre Street United Methodist Church where she was a past financial assistant and past member of the Wednesday Worship Group and the Esther Circle.  She was employed as a secretary in Nursing Administration at the Cumberland Memorial Hospital.  Prior to that she was employed at Murdock’s Jewelry and Gift Shop, and the First National Bank.

Funeral Services will be on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at 11:00 am in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with the Rev. Harold Bowser officiating.  Burial at Woods Church Cemetery.  Friends will be received on Friday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to Endowment Fund at Centre Street United Methodist Church, 217 N.
