Velma M. Thomas, 87 of Cumberland Road, Bedford, died Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at Homewood Nursing Home in Martinsburg. She was born February 9, 1921 in Shanksville, daughter of the late Robert and Minnie (Duppstadt) Walker. On June 22, 1938 in Winchester, VA, she married Joseph B. Thomas, and he preceded her in death on April 19, 2003. She is survived by a son Robert A. Thomas, married to the former Rose Marie Tayco of Greenville, two granddaughters; Colleen Basore of Bedford and Shela Wife of Steve Weiss of Ft. Branch, IN, three great grandchildren; Christie wife of Johnny Horn of Manns Choice, Kaleb Brown of New York, NY, Dain Hawkins of Bedford, two great great granddaughters; Brenna Becker and Emily Horn both of Manns Choice. Also surviving are three sisters; Dorothy Jean Campbell, Aleen “Tootie” Young both of Greenville and Ida Janet Ringer of Mercer. She was preceded in death by a brother, Hillis Walker and a sister Helen Reed.
Mrs. Thomas owned and operated Thomas Antiques in Bedford from 1955 to 1995.
Funeral Services: Saturday, August 29, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford with Rev. Ralph Landis officiating. Burial at the Schellsburg Cemetery.
