Thomas P. Whitfield

Thomas P. Whitfield 66 of Bedford, died Friday, June 1, 2018 at his residence.  He was born on November 7, 1951 in Bedford, a son of Thomas A. Whitfield, surviving in the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, and the late Grace (Drenning) Whitfield.  On March 24, 1974 in Brunswick, GA he married Susan (Gantt) Whitfield, who survives along with two daughters: Shelly N. “Nikki” Kennedy and husband Richard, of Brunswick, GA, and Tiffany Lee Rice and husband Donald, of Bedford; three grandchildren: Justin Thomas Whitfield Kennedy, Nicholas R. Kennedy, and Paris T. Kennedy; a great-granddaughter, Journey Rae Kennedy; numerous extended family members in the Bedford area; and his two best buddies, Rocky & Biscuit.

Thomas was a 1969 graduate of Bedford High School and attended the Pittsburgh Technical Institute.  He served in the United State Marine Corps from 1971 until 1975 earning an Honorable Discharge at the rank of Staff Sergeant.  Thomas worked as a food salesman for PYA Monarch, US Foods, and Sea Breeze.  He was a member of the Marine Corps League and the NRA.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Rev. Brian Swian and Joyce Hillegass officiating.  Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park, with full military rites conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.  Friends will be received on Monday, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers those wishing may make memorial contributions in Thomas’s name to: Humane Society of Bedford County, 1108 Lutzville Road, Bedford, PA 15522.  Our online guestbook is available at www.berkebilefuneralhome.com
