Thomas J. Blackburn

August 4, 1916 — June 3, 2002

Thomas J. Blackburn 85 of Martinsburg formerly of Barclay Street, Bedford, died Wednesday, June 3, 2002 at Nason Hospital in Roaring Spring.  He was born August 4, 1916 in Cessna, Pa. a son of the late Jay and Vera (McCallion) Blackburn.  On September 12, 1963 in Bedford Pa. he married Mary Eva (Long) of Martinsburg and she survives along with one brother Richard M. married to the former Eunice Carrier of Wheaton, Il., and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Blackburn was a life long member and former Deacon and Elder of St. Paul’s Reform Church in Cessna. He graduated from Ryder’s College in 1941 with honors and a degree in accounting.  From 1941 to 1952 he operated Thomas J. Blackburn General Merchandise in Cessna.  In 1952 until retiring in 1985 he was a partner with his brother and father in owning and operating Jay Blackburn and Sons in Bedford.  He was also an avid hunter and Charter member of Bedford Sportmans Club.

Funeral services Thursday at 11:00 AM form the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Inc. in Bedford with the Rev. Bob Newell and Rev. Earl Herr officiating. Burial in Bedford Cemetery.  Friends will be received today from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Funeral Home.
