T. Calvin Custer

T. Calvin Custer 93, of Bedford, “well done, thou good and faithful servant: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord” were the words Calvin heard on December 8th at 10:30 p.m. as he entered into the presence of his Savior. He was born on March 8, 1929 in Central City, a son of the late John Custer and Amanda (Pebley) and Emanuel E. Seese. On September 20, 1952 in Alum Bank, he married his wife of 70 years, Betty (Price) Custer and she survives along with two daughters:  Vicki Miller and husband Gary of New Paris; and Cheri McDonald and husband Bernie of Imler; five grandchildren:  Derrick and Matthew Miller, Jared and Aaron McDonald, and Cara Johnson; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Robert Custer.

Calvin was a devoted family man and a friend to everyone who knew him. He was a faithful and active member of the church.  He was gifted woodworker and contractor who mentored several young men in the trade.  He was a patient, kind, caring and generous man.  It has been said “Calvin gave away more money than he ever made.”  He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.  Besides woodworking, he also enjoyed working in his flowerbeds, making birdhouses, feeding the birds and restoring old Buicks.  Our hearts are broken and we will miss him terribly but we are celebrating his life and final victory in Jesus Christ.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford with Pastor Tim Guyer officiating.  Burial at Mt. Carmel EV Lutheran Church Cemetery in Ogletown.  Friends will be received on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to: Gideons International, PO Box 627, Bedford, PA 15522.
