Stanley W. Corley Sr., 79, of Buffalo Mills, died Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at his residence. He was born on August 25, 1937, in New Buena Vista, a son of the late James "Bud" and Dessie (Diehl) Corley. On September 14, 1958, in Buffalo Mills, he married the love of his life, Cora Louise (Shoup) Corley who survives along with two sons: Stan Corley of Bedford, and Jeffrey Corley and wife Kelly of Buffalo Mills; eight grandchildren: James, Amber, Jade, Jeffrey, Cole, Dakota, Cheyenne, and Joey; two great grandchildren: Noah and Savannah; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bob Corley, a sister, Irene Hillegass, and her husband Doug.
Stanley was a member of the Lybarger Lutheran Church. He retired from Kelly Springfield Tire after 28 years, and he also worked as a tax assessor for Bedford County. He graduated from Chestnut Ridge High School in 1955, and after high school he was drafted to play baseball for the Philadelphia Phillies, but an elbow injury ended his career. He returned home and played for many Bedford County teams. He enjoyed golfing at the Springs Resort and also traveled to play golf. In 2013 the Chestnut Ridge Baseball Team that he played for in high school, was inducted into the Bedford County Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Rocky Ridge Sportsman’s Club, the Hyndman Masonic Lodge # 589, and a past Londonderry Twp. Supervisor.
Funeral Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation. Arrangements by the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford.
