Stanford P. Sheirer

Stanford P. Sheirer, 79 of Blackburn Ave., Bedford, died Thursday, May 21, 2009 at Pennknoll Village Nursing Home.  He was born December 22, 1929 in Bard Hollow, son of the late John F. and Lillian L. (Ritchey) Sheirer.  On October 4, 1955 in Winchester, VA, he married Joan Sears and she survives along with the following children: Ronald A Sheirer of Bedford, Daniel C. Sheirer married to the former Karen Hurley of Mesa, AZ, Susan K. Sheirer and companion William Blackburn of Bedford, Ellen L. Hoover of Bedford, and Barbara L. wife of Dr. David Rebuck of Hamilton, NY. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, Ronnie Jr. and wife Ashley, Dillon, Laura and husband Justin,  Kristin, Garret, Derek, Tara, Caleb, Sabrina, Ethan and Kayla, three great grandchildren, Alyssa, Gabriel, and Camyrn, two sisters, Jane Calhoun of Mench, Geraldine wife of James R. Moore of Reynoldsdale and two brothers, James Sheirer and wife Betty of  Greenville, and Donald Sheirer and wife Shirley of Reynoldsdale.  He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest, and William Sheirer and two sisters, Margaret Weaver and Irene Banner and two special Aunts, Pearl Ashba and Nellie Keller.

Stanford was a retired truck driver for Eastern Express and Suwak. During the Korean conflict he was a Navy Radar Specialist on the USS Manchester He accomplished his childhood dream of becoming a glider pilot, in Cumberland, MD in the 1960’s and was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Assoc. and a lifetime member of the Freedom Flyers in Osterburg.  He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Funeral services: Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford with Rev. Curtis Bryant officiating.  Burial in Bedford Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.  Friends will be received on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.  Our online guest book is available at www.berkebilefuneralhome.com.
