Sonia J. Ruppel, 81, of Hackettstown, NJ, formerly of Bedford, died Friday, June 28, 2013 at Morristown Memorial Hospital, in New Jersey. She was born on November 1, 1931, in Stroudsburg, a daughter of the late Harry and Ella (Woolbert) Ibarra. On November 17, 1957, in Elizabeth, NJ, she married Philip M. Ruppel, who preceded her in death on April 19, 2001. She is survived by the following family: a son, Rich Ruppel, and wife Denise of Old Bridge, NJ, a daughter Phyllis Halbig-Mosley and husband Joseph, of Hollidaysburg, a daughter Christina Whetstone and husband Kevan of Buffalo Mills, and a son Kurt Ruppel and wife Jennifer, of Hackettstown, NJ; eleven grandchildren: Taylor, Noelle, Jessie, Theresa, Fred, Briana, Hunter, Philip, Austin, Tracey, and Sarah; seven great-grandchildren: Donovan, Destani, Joey, Cole, Will, Connor, and Miles; a step-mother, Mary Jane Ibarra, a brother Ramon and wife Sandy, sister Corrinna and husband Brendan, both of Bedford, brother Ronald and wife Sharon, of South Carolina, sister Rita and husband Dick of Bedford, sister Vickie and husband Gary, and a brother Ed and wife Helen, both of Buffalo Mills. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Philip, a daughter, Susan, one grandson, Michael, a sister Ruthanne and a step-sister Cheryl.
Sonia was a member of Our Lady of the Mountain Parish, in Long Valley, NJ. She was well known as ‘Momma Rupp’ and loved spending time with her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and welcomed anyone into her home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at 11:00 a.m., at the St. Thomas Catholic Church, with Father Donald Dusza, Celebrant. Friends will be received on Tuesday, from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford. Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park.
