Shirley M. Moorehead

Shirley M. Moorehead, 93, of Briar Valley Road, Bedford, died Sunday January 25, 2015, at Pennknoll Village Nursing Home. He was born on May 23, 1921, in Bedford, a son of the late C.W. and Carrie (Arnold) Moorehead. He then married Elaine (Wallace) Moorehead, who preceded him in death on January 9, 1975. He is survived by the following family: daughter, Jane wife of John Black, of Bedford, and Charles Moorehead, and fiancée Patti Comeau, of Bedford; three grandchildren: J.T., Jeff, and fiancée Jillian Bowers, and Joe Black; two great-granchildren: Paige and Johnny; special friend, Virginia Bequeath, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, John Moorehead, widow Karen Parsons, surviving of Painesville, OH, brother, Hughes “Butch” Moorehead, wife Vivian, sister Eleanor, wife of John Murphy, and brother, Doc Moorehead, wife Reube.
Mr. Moorehead was a graduate of Franklin Marshall Academy, and served in the Army Air Corps, during WWII, as a Radio Mechanic. He then co-owned, with his siblings, the Bedford Roll Arena, Restaurant, & Motor Lodge, where he provided a clean and safe environment for many children throughout the Bedford area. He invented many games while at the Roll Arena, and hosted many Christmas, New Year’s Eve, Sadie Hawkins parties, and Sock Hops. He was remembered as a kind, polite gentleman, and was always approached in town, by people sharing precious memories from their days at the Roll Arena. He was a member of the Bedford American Legion Post #113, and the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel, at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Lay Minister Jim Miller, officiating. Burial at Bedford Cemetery, with full military rites conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard. Friends will be received on Tuesday, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
